Most comparisons of this category on the open web are published by one of the vendors in it. This one is not. Several platforms now publish list prices, and those are below — but what decides the fit is the six things to test in a demo, not the entry price.

The cloud-native platforms — Shopmonkey, Tekmetric and Shop-Ware — pull ahead on parts ordering, where live supplier pricing and availability drop straight into the estimate. That is a genuine daily time saving rather than a feature-list item. If tires are a big share of your tickets, tire registration, fitment and stock by size matter as much as the RO, and dedicated tire shop software is its own choice.
The six things to test in a demo
- Repair order numbering and search. Can you find a two-year-old RO by VIN, by plate, by part number? That is the warranty conversation, and it is the thing the RO template is a paper stand-in for.
- Parts matrix. Does it hold a full sliding matrix and apply it at estimate time? A platform that takes one flat markup will not hold your 55–58% gross profit on parts target — build yours on the matrix calculator and see if it fits.
- Effective labor rate reporting. Can it report labor sales over billed hours without an export? If not, you will not track the gap between the posted and the realised rate, and nobody tracks what needs a spreadsheet.
- Technician hours. Does it capture worked hours as well as billed, so productivity against 80% is measurable? Many capture only billed.
- Digital inspection. Photos, measurements and a customer-facing result — the electronic version of the multi-point sheet.
- Getting out. Export your customers, vehicles, ROs and history to a real file, before you sign. Ask to see the export run.
On pricing
Five of these publish list prices per shop. Tekmetric starts at $199 a month ($179 billed annually) with unlimited users; Shopmonkey Basic is $239 a month ($215 annually) with three user licences and $20 a month for each extra; AutoLeap Essentials is $199 a month ($179 annually); Fullbay Basic is $188 a month plus $89 for each additional user; NAPA TRACS Silver starts at $109 a month, with ProDemand repair information from Gold at $219. Payments, texting and multi-shop are add-ons or higher tiers almost everywhere, so the entry price is rarely your price. For the rest, and for your real all-in number, get quotes from your two shortlisted platforms on the same shop profile, and put the monthly figure into fixed cost on the rate worksheet — software is overhead, and overhead is carried by the door rate. What about free
There are free and open-source options, and they are real for a one-bay shop starting out. What “free” means differs sharply between them — that is its own comparison: free auto repair shop software.
